Participants will gain an understanding of the value of using content creation apps in PK-2 classrooms and see how to use our youngest students’ natural curiosity exists as a catalyst for creativity revealed through the iPad. Our youngest are able to demonstrate high order thinking skills through the use of movie making apps, mind mapping apps, creativity apps, and presentation apps. As teachers we just need to inspire, guide students, and let them soar. Participants will see project examples from PK-2 classrooms that are utilizing iPads in a 1:1 environment. Some examples include: how students use iDiary to create hypotheses, ask questions and keep a science diary; how students use Popplet to explain a process in pictures alone; how beginning readers use fotobabble to record and reflect on their own reading processes; and how students synthesize information using Pic Collage. Students’ personal connection to content leads to a greater retention of concepts which can be gained through open ended apps on the iPad in the PK-2 classroom.
