Sara Chai has enjoyed teaching seventh and eighth grade physical and life science at Montgomery Middle School in the Sweetwater Union High School District for the past nine years. She earned her B.S. in Biology from Westmont College in 2001, and after serving as the Biology lab coordinator for two years post graduation, she went on to complete the requirements for her teaching credential at Point Loma Nazarene University in 2004. She has an innate desire to learn and continually fosters that desire to learn in her students. In 2013 she became an Apple Foundations Trainer and using the skills developed through this training to enhance her classroom teaching. Her students are actively engaged in technology through the adoption of the 1:1 iPad initiative. Her students participate in activities such as Skyping to collaborate with sea turtle researchers in Mexico and Costa Rica through the Bridge the Border program of the Science Exchange. Last year, Sara broadcast live via VSee from the tide pools at Cabrillo National Monument back to her students in the classroom.
